What is Gum disease?

Also known as Gum disease, Periodontal disease is a bacterial infection on the gums which affects its ability to hold the tooth in place.

Our mouths contains lots of bacteria. These bacteria a sticky colorless plaque on the teeth when they come in contact with mucus and other contaminants. Such plaque hardens to form tartar which cannot be cleaned using the regular dental brush. It is highly recommended that if you are an existing patient of i2m Dental, then visit your dentist Dr. Pallavi Sinha every 6 months for a preventative treatment and rid of your plaque and tartars.

Symptoms of Gum disease

Symptoms of gum disease include:

  • Persistent Bad breath

  • Swollen gums with reddish tinge

  • Bleeding gums

  • Loose teeth and Pain while chewing

  • Sensitive teeth

  • Receding gums or longer appearing teeth

Simple tips to healthy gums

  • Brush your teeth after each meal with a fluoride toothpaste.

  • Floss after each meal, if possible to ensure that the bacteria do not get favorable conditions for creating plaque.

  • Do your annual physical and continue to monitor your blood sugar for diabetes; 

  • Visit your dentist to get rid of plaque and tartar every 6 months.

  • Quit smoking if you do and if you can.

Dental Crown Lengthening Procedure

If you have a gummy smile because too much gum tissue covering your teeth gives the appearance of shorter teeth, then this procedure may be recommended for you. This procedure generally fall under restorative and cosmetic dental procedure.

Due to various reasons a traditional restoration such as crown or bridge may not be possible, then crown lengthening procedure can let your dentist or the periodontist adjust the gums and bone levels so that more tooth can be exposed and restored.
